Social activist Sarim Burney has been arrested in Karachi reportedly on complaints made by the United States.
He was taken into custody as soon as he landed at Karachi on a return journey from the United States on Wednesday.
FIA sources told Aaj News that Burney was arrested by Anti-Human Trafficking cell of the FIA. He faces serious allegations and was being monitored for a long time, said the sources.
Burney was arrested over charges of human trafficking after the US officials reported him to Pakistan, said the sources adding that Burney is accused of trading children in the United States.
Burney operates a Sarim Burney Welfare Trust International set up in Karachi, Pakistan.
Meanwhile, a video statement of Sarim Burney that he recorded before the arrest surfaced on social media.
In the video, Burney could be seen claiming that many people were trying to “sling mud” at him and he remained tight lipped but now he was going to speak up.
Burney said he was going to reveal secrets after reaching Karachi from the United State.
He said he only faces accusations but he has proofs against those defaming him.
