In a good news for Sindh residents struggling with crippling load shedding and high electricity prices, the Sindh government has announced a plan to provide free electricity to consumers using up to 100 units.

Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah revealed the plan during a media briefing, stating that the government will initially provide free electricity to consumers using up to 100 units through a combination of solar parks and mini-grid stations.

“The government has allocated funds in the budget for solar energy and mini-grids,” Shah said. “The Sindh government will initially allocate Rs5 billion for solar energy in the budget.”

Shah also announced a plan to offer solar panels at heavily subsidized prices. “We are launching a scheme to provide solar panels at discounted prices,” he said. “We will provide 200,000 solar panels to low-income and middle-class families. The government will bear 80% of the cost, while consumers will only pay 20%.”

The provincial minister further stated that there are 500,000 homes in Sindh, including Karachi, that do not have access to electricity. “We will install solar parks and mini-grid stations across Sindh, including Karachi,” he said.
