The State Bank of Pakistan announced a bank holiday on May 28 (today) to observe Youm-e-Takbeer–the day when Pakistan became a nuclear power after conducting tests in the hills of Chagai, Balochistan in 1998.
All banking services and offices would remain closed on Tuesday. The Pakistan Stock Exchange will halt its operations as well due to the public holiday.
On Monday, the federal government announced a public holiday on May 28.
Youm-e-Takbeer commemorates the Chagai-I and Chagai-II nuclear tests conducted by Pakistan on this date in 1998.
