English players have pulled off from the Indian Premier League (IPL) for playing against Pakistan as the T20 WorldCup has kicked off, offending many Indians.
Jos Buttler (Rajasthan Royals), Phil Salt (Kolkata Knight Riders) with Will Jacks and Reece Topley (Royal Challengers Bengaluru), Moeen Ali from Chennai Super Kings, Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow, and Sam Curran from Punjab Kings will not further participate in the remaining matches of IPL.
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan took to social media X, stating, “Either be available for a full season or don’t come.”
Gavaskar advocated for measures to hold the players and cricket boards accountable for these behaviours in his column for The Midday, Times of India reported.
He further stated that not only should the franchises be allowed to deduct the fees of these players, but the English board should also be denied the 10% commission they typically receive from the players’ fees.
