The police in Punjab foiled two separate militant attacks killing two militants. The gunfight also left seven policemen injured.
In one of the attacks, the terrorists tried to seize a police checkpost and fought a gunbattle with the police personnel, who responded bravely and repulsed them in the Tonsa area in the southern part of Punjab.
In recent months, militants have attacked multiple checkposts in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, but this was first such attack in Punjab.
During the intense firefight, seven police officers were injured while defending the outpost.
According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, a group of 15-20 militants launched a coordinated attack from multiple directions, taking advantage of the darkness on Tuesday night.
The attackers employed sophisticated weaponry, including rocket launchers, hand grenades, and laser-guided guns.
The seven officers stationed at the Jhang post bravely engaged the militants, sustaining injuries in the process.
The injured officers include ASI Imran, Constables Aamir, Ashiq, Rahmatullah, Sanaullah, and Tariq. Elite Constable Shahid Manzoor, who was critically injured, was transferred to Nishtar Hospital in Multan for specialized treatment.
The Inspector General of Punjab Police, Usman Anwar has vowed that the militants’ nefarious intentions will not succeed.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz strongly condemned the attack and commended the police team for their courageous response.

In a separate incident, a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) team narrowly escaped unharmed during the exchange of fire with militants.
Authorities revealed that the slain militants’ network had planned to assassinate Federal Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada.
According to the CTD, the two militants, identified as Adil alias Saifullah Khurasani and Zain alias Asadullah Khurasani, were killed by their accomplices during an attempt to retrieve hidden weapons in Bahawalpur.
The militants were initially arrested in Hasilpur during a murder investigation.
