A viral video on social media showing that the District Municipal Corporation (DMC) administrator and team fell into Karachi’s Gujjar Nullah during the cleaning is fake, according to Aaj News.
A social media platform, X, user uploaded a one-minute video on Tuesday with the caption, “During the Gujar Nala cleaning, the DMC administrator, Karachi, and other senior workers fell into the Nala because of an overcrowding on top of the machine.”
The video does not clearly show the faces of the men on the machine, however, trash on the river and the trees in the surrounding areas give a look of some Karachi river.
Upon fact-checking, it was found out that it was an old video from India’s Goa state.
A 2016 story on BuzzFeed further clears the confusion. It says the person in the yellow shirt was the-then mayor of Panjim, Surendra Furtado. He took some journalists on the luxury cruise down St Inez Nullah.
Reports said that the mayor was on a trip to show how the machine works. Experts described it as“media publicity“.

Some of the users thought the video was real, but journalist Khurram Hussain replied to the user that it was an old video from India and advised the user to correct it.
