Hamid Mir denies Islamabad hit and run woman is wife of a senior journo

Senior journalist and anchorperson Hamid Mir has refuted social media claims that the woman who hit a policeman in Islamabad after an altercation and then ran with her car is the wife of a senior journalist.

Social media users have been claiming that the woman is the wife of anchorperson Amir Mateen.

Mir did not mention Mateen but said that the journalist in question had “no wife.”

“Whatever this woman did was wrong, an FIR was also registered against the woman, action should have been taken against her, but how did the controversy start? Some touts of the intelligence agencies are declaring this woman to be the wife of a senior journalist. The intelligence agencies do not know that the said journalist does not even have a wife,” Hamid Mir wrote on social media platform using his handle @HamidMirPAK.

Some other X users said Mateen had divorced his wife 16 years ago.

The woman seen in the video remains free after the incident that took place in January but the video clips surfaced only this week.

The video has sparked social media debate with some people saying the police should have asked personal questions to the woman after stopping her at night.

The viral video shows a female car driver run over a policeman after an altercation with his colleagues at what looks like a toll booth.

An FIR into the incident said the woman was stopped for overspeeding.
