‘Local holiday’ declared in Lahore on Tuesday

The Lahore administration has declared a ‘local holiday’ in the city on Tuesday (tomorrow) because of the visit of foreign dignitaries, a day after the Karachi administration took a similar decision.

“In view of the visit of foreign dignitaries and thereby to avoid the consequent inconvenience to the general public, the April 23, 2024 (Tuesday) is hereby declared as local holiday in Lahore district,” said the notification issued by the additional chief secretary on Monday.

It stated that the holiday would be observed only in the Lahore district and its subordinate offices.

The notification clarified that it does not apply to the offices of the Punjab Civil Secretariat, its attached departments and regional offices.

Although it was not mentioned in the notification, the decision was likely taken because of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s visit to Pakistan.

Raisi landed in Islamabad earlier in the day. He met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

Raisi and Shehbaz agreed to boost relations in diverse fields, particularly in combating terrorism in the region.
