The Islamabad High Court chief justice has sought suggestions from all judges, including district and sessions court, by Monday on the letter written by six of its judges, sources said on Friday.
They added that suggestions were sought on the directions of the Supreme Court. Recommendations have also been sought from the district and sessions judges in East and West.
All the judges have also been sent a copy of the Supreme Court order. The response would make it certain whether to summon a full court or not.
Earlier this month, the Supreme Court in its order of the first proceedings of the suo motu proceedings of the meddling case sought proposals from the main stakeholders in the judicial system and the independence of the judiciary ie the Pakistan Bar Council, the Supreme Court Bar Association, the high courts, and the federal government.
Proposals would be sought from them “as to what should be the institutional response and mechanism to address the issues like the ones raised in the letter and ensure that such issues do not arise in future and if they do, to fix liability and proceed against those responsible.”
Last month, six out of eight judges of the IHC demanded that a judicial convention be summoned over the alleged interference of intelligence agencies in the judiciary. The six judges who signed the letter are Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, Justice Babar Sattar, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, and Justice Rafat Imtiaz.
Meanwhile, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Malik Shehzad Ahmed Khan has sought a full court meeting on April 22 at 1:30pm to discuss the measures for the independence of judiciary.
