The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia have announced that Wednesday, April 10, 2024, will be the first day of Eidul Fitr as the Shawwal moon was not sighted on Monday, Arab media reported.
According to the UAE Moon-Sighting Committee, Tuesday (tomorrow) will be the last day of Ramadan.
The committee, after exhausting the Sharia methods of sighting the crescent and making the necessary contacts with neighbouring countries, could not sight the Shawwal month crescent on Monday evening, and therefore declares that April 9 is the last day of Ramadan, and that April 10, is the first day of Eid Al Fitr, Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi, the minister of justice and chairman of the committee, said.
The announcement means public and private sector employees get a nine-day break including the weekends in the UAE, according to Khaleej Times.
