Aseefa Bhutto Zardari elected unopposed as MNA from Sindh’s Shaheed Benazirabad

Aseefa Bhutto Zardari was elected unopposed as a member of the National Assembly from NA-207 Shaheed Benazirabad, formerly Nawabshah, in Sindh on Friday.

“Grateful and honoured to have been elected unopposed as MNA NA-207 Shaheed Benazirabad,” she said in a post on X, erstwhile Twitter. “I pledge to serve all my constituents to the best of my abilities, with dedication and irrespective of political affiliation.”

Aseefa, 31, is the youngest of Zardari’s three children with former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. Others are Bakhtawar and Bilawal.

Aseefa had filed her nomination papers to contest the by-election on March 17 and her candidature was subsequently approved by the returning officer after the scrutinisation process on Thursday.

The NA-207 seat was vacated by her father, Asif Ali Zardari, after he was elected as the president. The notification said that three candidates, including Abdul Rasool Brohi, Amanullah and Mairaj Ahmed, withdrew their names from the contest for the by-poll.

If the March 10 social media post by the PPP is to be believed, she could be the next first lady of Pakistan.

She thanked the people of her constituency, PPP workers and media organisations for their “presence and support”.
