Australia imposes stricter visa rules for foreign students

Australia will enforce tough visa rules for visas starting Saturday to reduce the number of migrants in the country.

Official figures indicate an increase in migration levels that will be handled by the government by tightening the English language requirements for student visas and implementing a genuine student test for graduates.

The breach of rules on international student recruitment will result in the suspension of the student if they continuously break the rules.

Besides this, visit visas will not be provided with overstay conditions to limit the stay extension.

The Australian Minister for Home Affairs, Clare Ellen O’Neil, said that the country will introduce a genuine student test to eliminate students from seeking work opportunities in Australia.

O’Neil stated that the measures taken will help the country ensure that limited migrants are moving to the country by addressing loopholes in the current system.

The post-pandemic relaxation of the border and the increase in migration have exhausted the rental market and led to a housing shortage.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics shared that the country’s net immigration surged by 60% to a record 548,800 people in September 2023.

The students, mainly from India, China, and the Philippines, have increased the labor pool and burden on wages in the country.
