Fans of English singer Ed Sheeran were thrilled on Saturday night after hearing him singing in Punjabi “for the first time” during a concert in Mumbai.
“Brother singing in PANJABI for the first time BURRAAAA Chak deya Ga,” Indian singer Diljit Dosanjh wrote in an Instagram post on Saturday.
He also shared a video of him performing with the Shape of You singer where they together sang the former’s famous song Lover.
When Sheeran invited Dosanjh to perform with him on stage crowds cheered and shouted. The duo gave a rendition of Dosanjh’s hit track in Punjabi.
Just like fans at the concert, their followers on social media were also happy to see the ‘crossover’.
One of the fans wrote on Instagram that it was “the crossover we never knew we needed”.
Another said: “I think I have seen history in the making,” while a third said Sheeran’s Punjabi was “perfect”.
The clip shared by Dosanjh shows him getting shocked when Sheeran sings with him the main lines of the song.
Both artists posted a clip from the performance from their Instagram handles after the performance.
The Photograph singer wrote: “Got to bring out Diljit Dosanjh tonight in Mumbai and sing in Punjabi for the first time. I’ve had such an incredible time in India, more to come!”
