Pakistan-Iran train service suspended as rains damage track in Balochistan

The train services were suspended between Pakistan and Iran following heavy rains in Dalbandin city of Balochistan a day earlier, district administrations said.

The railway track was drowned under the rainwater that had inundated streets and destroyed several houses in Dalbandin, which is the headquarters of the Chagai district, it added.

According to officials, heavy rains lashed the city along with Sargisha and Chattar on Sunday night and also destroyed standing crops in rural areas while several families were displaced as rainwater damaged infrastructure.

The district administration continued the dewatering operation while distributing tents and sheets to the displaced residents of several areas.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department said that a new westerly wind system will entre the country today (Monday) likely leading to rain and snow in multiple parts of the country for the next three days.

According to the Met Office, upper Punjab, upper Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan can receive rain.

Rainfall has been predicted in 28 districts of Balochistan till March 13. The province is already reeling from the effects of rain earlier this month.
