Police prevent terrorist attack on Adiala jail

A joint operation by police and Counter Terrorism Department in Rawalpindi prevented an terrorist attack on Adiala Jail on Wednesday night.

CPO Khalid Saeed Hamdani said that a major disaster had been averted by the joint action. He added that three terrorists have been apprehended and moved to an undisclosed ‘safe’ location.

The CPO said that all three terrorists belonged to Afghanistan.

The police claimed that a large cache of automatic weapons and ammunitino was receovered from the terrorists. The terrorists were also carrying grenades, improvised explosive devices and maps of Adiala Jail.

Law enforcement agencies undertook a search operation around the Adiala Jail after the terrorists were arrested.

A video showed a convoy of of police and CTD officials parked by the roadside at an undisclosed location at night, while armed officials entered a deserted patch of land for a a search operation.

Adiala Jail is currently home to some high profile prisoners including former Prime Minister Imran Khan, former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and former Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi.
