Shehbaz announces massive financial aid for Gwadar flood victims

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived on a visit to flood-hit areas in Gwadar, where he met affectees and announced aid for them.

Shehbaz’s visit comes a day after he took oath as prime minister of Pakistan.

According to the aid announced by the PM, the relatives of each deceased person will get Rs2 million while each family whose house was damaged in the flood will get Rs750,000 in compensation.

He also announced that people injured in the floods will get Rs500,000 in while the people whose houses were partially destroyed will get Rs300,000.

Shehbaz also announced a package of Rs400 million for the repair of boats damaged due to the flood.

The PM met flood affectees and distributed aid cheques among them. He said that that the government would leave no stone unturned in helping the people of Gwadar.

Torrential rains had wreaked havoc in Gwadar on February 26, demolishing houses and roads and leading to large areas of land being submerged by water. At least five people were killed in the flooding while dozens of houses were destroyed.

The government had immediately imposed a flood emergency in the area. However, resuce efforts were hampered due to major roads being overrun by water.
