Pakistan Peoples Party has shortlisted three names for the post of Punjab’s governor, with Nadeem Afzal Chan likely out of the race, according to sources.
PPP has shortlisted the names of former governor Makhdum Syed Ahmad Mahmood and former federal minister Qamar Zaman Kaira for the post.
Another name that is being speculated as a possibile candidate is Chaudhry Riaz, a former adivsor belonging to Azad Kashmir.
The sources also added that the names of the governors of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are likely to be finalised and announced after the presidential election of March 9.
PPP had reached a power sharing agreement with the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz after the elections, along with multiple other parties. The parties agreed to field Shehbaz Sharif as candidate for prime minister and Asif Zardari for president.
The formula also allowed PPP to nominate governors in Punjab and KP, with the post of Senate chairman likely to fall to the party as well.
