Bol sets world record to win world indoor 400m gold, Warholm upset

Femke Bol of the Netherlands shattered her own world record to win world indoor 400m gold in Glasgow on Saturday.

Bol, the two-time world 400m hurdles champion, clocked 49.17 seconds to beat her previous best, set last month, by 0.07sec.

“It’s a dream come true,” said Bol, who led from gun to tape in an exceptional display of running.

Her Dutch teammate Lieke Klaver took silver in 50.16sec and American Alexis Holmes bronze (50.24).

There was an upset in the men’s 400m, however, as Belgium’s Alexander Doom edged Norwegian favourite Karsten Warholm at the line for victory in a national record of 45.25sec.

Warholm, the world record holder, three-time outdoor champion and Olympic gold medallist in the 400m hurdles, claimed silver in 45.34sec, with Jamaica’s Rusheen McDonald taking bronze (45.65).
