PML-N leader Shehbaz Sharif was elected the 24th prime minister of Pakistan after he secured 201 votes in the House of 293 on Sunday.
Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) candidate for the top slot secured 92 votes.
As many as 15 votes could not be polled as some lawmakers boycotted or abstained from the election while a few additional seats were vacated by lawmakers.
Balochistan National Party (BNP-M) President Sardar Akhtar Mengal and Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai abstained from voting along with a lawmaker from the National Party.
Sharif could not get three of the party votes as he vacated his additional seat in the National Assembly while NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq could not vote in the election.
Maryam Nawaz, who was elected the chief minister of Punjab, also vacated her NA seat.
Similarly, the newly-elected chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur also vacated his NA seat.
Meanwhile, the Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) boycotted the election and eight of the party’s lawmakers including those on reserved seats did not cast their vote in the polling process.
