The Sunni Ittehad Council has formally applied for reserved seats in the Election Commisison of Pakistan.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-backed independents had decided to join the SIC in a bid to get reserved seats and sit in the parliament as a group.
A total of 86 members of the National Assembly, 85 members of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, 105 members of the Punjab Assembly and nine members of the Sindh Assembly have submitted affidavits of joining the SIC so far.
This has taken the total number of independent candidates in the SIC to 285.
The ECP’s R&I branch has received the SIC application and allotted it a number as well.
PTI’s plans to get reserved seats in the assembly have been the subject of much speculation ever since the bat symbol was denied to the party by the ECP.
Although the speculation had included specualtion about joining MWM, the final decision for an alliance led to the party joining hands with SIC.
