Insider reveals source of disagreement between PMLN and PPP

Talks between Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz have entered their sixth round. However, a final agreement still seems elusive and an insider report has explained the reason.

According to sources, the two parties are likely in disagreement over PPP’s policy of not accepting ministries in the new government.

PMLN believes that they could be stuck in a situation where PPP would express support for the government but also criticise its work from outside.

The disagreement also includes other posts. While the post of president is likely to go to the PPP, the PMLN is hesitant to give up the posts of Senate chairman, National Assembly Speaker and governors.

PMLN reportedly wants to satisfy many of its own leaders with some of these posts. The post of Senate chairman is particularly one where the PMLN is refusing to budge.

PMLN had emerged as the largest group in the National Assembly after independents, with 75 seats. The PPP stood third with 54 seats.

The PPP has alread made it clear that it will not ask for ministries or field a cnadidate for prime minister. However, Bilawal Bhutto said on Sunday that Asif Zardari would be the candidate for president.
