Independent candidates backed by PTI expected to join JI: sources

Independent candidates backed by the PTI are expected to join the Jamaat-e-Islami, sources said on Tuesday as the two parties make contacts after the general elections.

They added that committees have been formed after the PTI chairman and JI ameer made contacts. A three-member committee has been formed by both sides for the task.

It merits here to mention that former prime minister Imran Khan has announced his party’s support for JI’s Hafiz Naeemur Rehman in the Karachi mayor election last year. But the development did not produce the required result as PPP candidate Murtaza Wahab became the city’s first mayor in the city.

Moreover, Rehman abandoned on Monday his Karachi seat won in the elections. He alleged that elections were rigged.

The PTI committee comprises Barrister Gohar Khan, Azam Swati, and Ali Amin Gandpur while the JI committee comprises Liaquat Baloch, Professor Ibrhaim, and Inayatullah Khan.

Sources said that the committee would talk about continuing the dialogue process. The two parties would have a coalition after the matters were finalised.

Rana Fayyaz, Waseem Qadir join PML-N

Meanwhile, an independent candidate from Sialkot PP-49 Rana Fayyaz met with PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and joined the party.

He expressed his “complete confidence” in former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

Waseem Qadir also joined the PML-N. Shehbaz congratulated both of the leaders on becoming part of the party.

“We all have to make Pakistan prosperous and bring stability to the lives of people,” he said and added that the challenges faced by the people could be resolved through brotherhood, consensus, and national cohesion.
