PTI leader Latif Khosa has said that his party would form the central government after it gets back 50 National Assembly seats or else the former ruling party would sit on the other side of the aisle in the assembly.
In an interview with Shahzeb Khanzada of Geo News, he said that the party was waiting for the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision on the 50 NA seats allegedly stolen by the rival parties.
Independent candidates backed by the PTI have secured 92 seats of the lower house of Parliament in the general elections, however, they still need 134 seats to form a government.
The PML-N emerging as the single largest party has reached out to the PPP and the MQM-P for a coalition government. On Monday, the PPP stated that it would contact all political parties over the government formation.
While appearing on the Khanzada show via video link, Khosa said that candidates from his party would sit in the opposition rather than forming a coalition government given the past experience.
“We can make government on our own. We don’t need any support. Our experience of coalition government was not successful,” he said and expressed his optimism over getting maximum numbers of reserved seats for women and minorities.
“This is irony that a party which has got more votes is not recognised as a party. No one has banned it,” he said and alleged that the party’s effort to make a coalition with PTI-Nazriati was foiled by allegedly picking up the PTI-N leader.
Meanwhile, he told reporters outside the ECP Office in Islamabad that holding free and fair elections was the responsibility of the country’s top electoral authority.
He went on to add that the people’s massive response to the PTI has shocked many political parties.
He praised PML-N leader Saad Rafique for accepting his defeat in the general elections.
