Commonwealth observer expresses satisfaction over polling process

Commonwealth Observers’ Group (COG) head Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on Thursday expressed satisfaction with the voting process, declaring it fair and transparent.

The statement came after the group visited several polling stations to observe the ongoing polling process as Pakistanis cast their votes in the general election 2024.

Internet and mobile phone services were suspended in parts of Pakistan as voters complained of facing communication problems due to an outage.

While several political parties criticised the suspension of internet and mobile services shutdown, Dr Jonathan stressed that “casting votes are more important than internet services.”

“Before the invention of the internet, we were holding polls and voting is more important than the internet,” Geo News reported.

However, he said that the suspension of internet services would only create trouble while posting the poll results.

It is pertinent to mention that a 25-member COG delegation comprising journalists and experts arrived in the country to inspect the electoral process.
