Security official martyred in KP’s Tank

A security official was martyred after unidentified men opened fire at a security forces vehicle in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district on Thursday, sources said as the country headed for polls after bloody election eve.

Despite the attack, police said that voting continued in Kot Azam. The vehicle was on duty in the area.

“Polling is under way in Kot Azam,” Tank Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Shoaib told Aaj News. He clarified that the attack was not on any polling station in the area.

A police party patrolling in the area was attacked, the deputy commissioner added.

“News related to polling stopped in the area is wrong,” Shoaib said.

Levies official martyred in Kharan blast

A Balochistan Levies official was martyred in an attack on a Levies vehicle in the Kharan district of Balochistan.

Reports said that the vehicle was targetted in a grenade attack.

In the run-up to the election, the South Asian country has seen an increase in terrorist activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The government has deployed thousands of security personnel to ensure law and order in the election.

The number of registered voters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has increased by more than four million over the past five years, according to the data shared by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
