The Election Commission of Pakistan has asked the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority to ensure that no material that could pose a risk to the law and order situation is broadcast on the media.
In a letter addressed to PEMRA’s chairman, ECP said that that the Authority should make sure media channels comply with the code of conduct issued for elections.
The code of conduct asks media to ensure that no such material which could bring disrepute to institutions or harm national unity is broadcast on TV.
It also asks media to ensure that there is no risk posed to the law and order situation in the country and no influence is cast on elections.
ECP has also asked PEMRA to ensure that media workers do not interfere with the polling process anywhere in the country. Any polling surveys near polling stations are also banned.
The Commission has asked the media to ensure that it clearly labels provisional results when they are being aired.
