Daily Jang admitted and apologised for publishing fake images of a tennis court and a luxury bedroom in PTI founder Imran Khan’s Bani Gala mansion.
“On February 2, nine different images were published regarding Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, out of which two photos were from Bani Gala’s bedroom and the other from the tennis court and swimming pool. By mistake, other photos were published instead of the original ones,” a correction notice said.
According to the notice, the images were provided by Rafiq Mangat without thorough research. “The organisation apologises for their [photos] publication.”
The correction notice came after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf supporters questioned over the authenticity of photos purportedly showing the interior of Khan’s mansion in Islamabad.
While reporting on a story regarding the house arrest of former First Lady Bushra Bibi on February 2, the publication shared a few aerial shots along with the supposed interior of Khan’s residence showing a luxury bedroom.
However, a Google search showed that the one of the photo was from an Australian property marketplace.
According to the website, the “16 Chiltern Court, Coes Creek QLD 4560” was sold by private treaty on September 30, 2016.
The bedroom image was also considered fake as it was found that the photo was extracted from a YouTube video filled with allegedly fake shots and clips of the former prime minister’s house in the capital city.
