Pneumonia continued to claim lives as 12 more children died during the past 24 hours in Punjab, said Punjab’s health department.
All children who succumbed to pneumonia were aged between one month to four years. Out of these, three were from Gujranwala, three were from Bahawalpur, two were from Rawalpindi, while Lahore, Faisalabad, Shaikupura, and Rahim Yar Khan each reported one death during 24 hours.
Statistics obtained from the health department show 76 deaths from the disease in a week. It reported that 1077 cases of pneumonia have been reported in Punjab during 24 hours; of these 251 belong to Lahore.
The death toll among the children from pneumonia reached 220 in Punjab.
Symptoms include cough with phlegm or pus, fever, chills, and breathing difficulties, leading to severe consequences.
However, the health specialist advised children and aged people to avoid going outside during the days with freezing temperatures. They believe that the disease could be controlled by wearing warm clothes and eating a healthy diet to prevent cold.
