Punjab’s Health Department has confirmed two more children’s deaths from Pneumonia in Lahore. The disease spread due to the intense cold weather and has claimed 85 lives across the province during a week.
A spokesperson of the health department said that 579 cases, of which 133 belong to Lahore, were reported in Punjab during 24 hours. The disease claimed 182 lives in the year 2023 in the province.
Dr Raja Muhammad Hassan, in charge of the Service Hospital’s emergency ward, emphasized that senior citizens and children should avoid unnecessary outings they should stay home as they have weak immunity systems.
On the other hand, to save children from the rapidly-spreading disease, caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed concern over the increasing cases of pneumonia in Punjab and announced a seven-day vacation for nursery and eliminatory classes.
The government also imposed a ban on holding a morning assembly in schools for a week, the decision was taken in the meeting presided by CM Punjab.
However, the freezing temperature is continuously causing cases to escalate in Lahore where public hospitals have been receiving hundreds of pneumonia cases regularly.
