A Saudi national has waived his SR350,000 (over Rs25 million) in debts owed by a Jordanian expatriate after the latter’s daughter pleaded to write off the debt, Gulf News quoted local media as saying.

The case dates back to a few years ago when the expatriate, working as a contractor in the kingdom, was involved in a road accident which resulted in the death of a Jordanian man while three others were injured.

A Saudi man identified as Sa’faq Al Shammari then paid the blood money to the family of the victim, along with the medical bills of the three injured, with the condition that the Jordanian expatriate would later repay the debt.

However, the expatriate fled from Saudi Arabia without repaying the debt after which Al Shammari filed a lawsuit.

The debtor was later arrested by the authorities and a trial was conducted that continued for three years, resulting in a decision against him as the court ordered the expatriate to repay the debt.

After the court verdict, the daughter of the debtor requested the Saudi man to write off the debt, to which Al Shammari agreed and waived his debt.
