Does Bilawal stand disqualified after ECP’s order on other party symbols?

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday directed the returning officers to reject applications of candidates who were affiliated with one party and sought the election symbol of another party for the election of 2024.

Soon after the ECP order, PTI leader Taimur Saleem Khan Jhagra claimed that the order would result in the disqualification of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

It is pertinent to mention that the party awards election tickets to its candidates from the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarian (PPPP) platform, which is a separate entity as per the PPP website.

In the introduction of the PPPP on the website, the party said that former premier Benazir Bhutto was elected as head of PPP on July 28, 2002, and was not an elective official in the PPPP.

At the time of PPPP’s formation, Makhdoom Amin Fahim was elected as its president and Raja Pervez Ashraf was the secretary general of the party.

However, it is not mentioned on the party website whether the PPP chairman will also be a member of the PPPP.
