Pakistan to face India on June 9 in T20 World Cup: report

Pakistan would face India on June 9, 2024, in New York during the T20 World Cup, India Today reported while citing sources.

The runner-up of the 2022 T20 World Cup would be eyeing their second title under the captaincy of Shaheen Shah Afridi.

The India news outlet added that India were expected to play their group games in the US and the Super 8 matches in the West Indies if they qualify.

The final of the tournament was expected to be played in Barbados on June 29.

Indian stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were keen to be a part of the squad for the T20 World Cup, the Indian news agency said. Both Rohit and Kohli have not played in the shortest format for India since the T20 World Cup semifinal against England in November 2022, the Press Trust of India said.

It added that a total of 30 players would be monitored during the Indian Premier League for the T20 World Cup.

In the last T20 World Cup, India beat Pakistan by four wickets in the group stage match. It was Virat Kohli who helped his side to chase the 160 runs target as the Indian wickets crumbled in front of Pakistan’s pace attack.

Kohli had scored an unbeaten 82 off 53 that included a six in the final over when 16 were needed.

Both teams would have their T20 leagues before the tournament, giving them ample time to prepare for the event and complete their side.
