Wasim Bari’s previous high of 72 runs off 113 deliveries in Adelaide in 1972 was surpassed by Jamal.
With his side reeling at seven for 220 when he came to bat, Jamal hit 82 runs in 97 deliveries to help Pakistan achieve a battling 313-run first-innings total.
On his route to his first Test half-century, he struck nine fours and four sixes.
