Punjab govt extends date of issuing driving licence with old fee

The caretaker Punjab government has extended the date of issuing a driving licence with the old fee till January 9.

The driving licences will be issued with the new fee from January 10. The fee for learner’s driving licence was a meager amount of Rs60. It was to be raised to triple digits after the revised schedule.

From January 1, the fees for a learner’s driving licence were scheduled to be raised from Rs60 to Rs1,000.

A few weeks back, the Punjab cabinet had allowed raising the driving licence fees. Under the revised fee schedule, the fee has been raised for international, renewal and new driving licenses also.

The City Traffic Police have appealed to the public to apply and get the licences at the earliest as possible to save their money and avoid violation of basic traffic rules.
