A delegation of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) – UN Migration Agency – arrived in Pakistan on Thursday to discuss the resettlement of Afghan refugees in Europe and the United States.
The IOM delegation was led by Director General Amy Pope. Special Representative for Afghanistan Asif Durrani led his delegation. Foreign Office DG for Afghanistan Saad Warraich and others were part of it.
“We discussed resettlement of Afghan citizens in third countries,” Durrani Durrani said and added that discussions were held on the departure of Afghans who arrived in Pakistan after the American withdrawal from Afghanistan.
In a statement, the Foreign Office said that interim FM Jalil Abbas Jilani received IOM chief Amy Pope at the office.
He appreciated the IOM’s work in Pakistan, especially in areas of migration, and humanitarian support after the 2022 devastating floods.
They also exchanged views on IOM’s ongoing projects in the country. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support to IOM’s mandate.
