Major social media platforms including X, formerly known as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube were disrupted in Pakistan on Sunday.
Users were reporting slow or non-existent internet connections.
Meanwhile, the government has not given any statement regarding the disruption, leading to confusion and frustration among citizens.
Meanwhile, Netblocks, an independent observer, confirmed that there was ‘national-scale’ disruption to platforms including YouTube, Instagram, X and Facebook.
The observer, which has commented on internet issues in Gaza and Ukraine in recent days, added that the disruptions came just ahead of a ‘virtual gathering’ by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
THe graphic posted by Netblocks showed that reachability for the platforms had came down to 0% for many ISPs while it was limited between 17% to 25% for many other ISPs.
