PTI founder Imran Khan and his former aide Fawad Chaudhry would be tried inside the Adiala prison in a contempt case, an Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) bench declared on Wednesday.
Khan and Fawad are being held in contempt of the ECP and the ECP has reserved its judgment which was announced today.
With the ECP bench’s decision, the PTI leader has lost another hope for a trial outside jail. He is already being tried in jail for leaking a diplomatic cipher.
The ECP cited security concerns when it ruled on Wednesday that all the accused in the contempt of ECP case would be tried in jail.
In a written judgment, ECP said, the Interior Ministry has refused to present Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry to the Election Commission due to security reasons.
Moreover, the ministry suggested a trial in Adiala jail like other cases.
The contempt of court case against Imran Khan has been pending since 2022. He was summoned in this case and arrest warrants were issued but he did not appear, it added.
Khan, and Fawad Chaudhry, who was then part of the PTI, had allegedly levelled accusations against the chief election commissioner and other officials during rallies.
