The Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) on Sunday claimed that party founder and head Manzoor Pashteen was arrested while he was on his way from Chaman to Turbat in Balochistan.
“Pashteen was traveling from Chaman to Turbat in a caravan when the army and police opened fire on his car,” a statement by the PTM’s social media team was posted on Pashteen’s account on X.
The party advised workers and supporters to remain calm and wait for the decision of the central committee for the next plan of action.
Later, police confirmed the claim by saying that Pashteen was arrested from Qilla Abdullah district and will be deported from the province as he was deemed a threat to the law and order situation.
Caretaker Balochistan Information Minister Jan Achakzai said that the authorities were not planning to book the PTM head.
He went on to add that Pashteen would be deported from the province through Zhob as there was a ban on his entry to Balochistan.
According to Achackzai, the PTM chief had been addressing the Chaman sit-in multiple times despite the provincial government’s notification of a ban on his entry to the province.
