Security beefed up on Karakorum Highway as 17 arrested after Chilas bus attack

Diamer Police have lodged a first information report (FIR) and arrested 17 suspects following an attack on a bus in Chilas city of Gilgit Baltistan. The authorities have beefed up security on the Karakorum Highway, especially for buses.

At least nine were killed and 26 injured when unidentified armed men opened fire on a bus in Chilas city of Gilgit Baltistan on Saturday.

According to SP Diamer, Sardar Shehryar said that he would go to any extent to deal with the terrorists. Initially, 17 suspects have been detained and are being interrogated.

Talking to the media, the public relations officer (PRO) for the Diamer commissioner said a case was registered against unknown gunmen by Diamer Station House Officer Azmat Shah.

High security along the Karakoram Highway

Gulbar Khan, Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, has announced increased security measures on the Karakoram Highway after a tragic incident of the bus attack in Chilas, resulting in multiple casualties.

The tragic event highlighted the need for increased security. Taking strict measures, Khan directed the police force to prioritize the security of travelers and commuters on the highway.

According to SP Diamer, the Karakoram Highway is operational on Monday. To provide security to passenger vehicles, convoy-style foolproof security will be given during the daytime.

The security enhancement plans include increasing patrolling by law enforcement agencies and setting up security checkposts along the highway.

The police have started a search operation across Diamer, and traffic on the Karakoram Highway will remain open today.
