Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Murtaza Solangi on Sunday said that PTI founder Imran Khan nominated the weakest man for the chairman slot.
“For the first time, we have seen that an interim chairman has been made. The person [Khan] who is in jail nominated the current [PTI] chairman. This shows that he does not trust his party leaders,” he said during his appearance on ARY News show Aitraz Hai.
Barrister Gohar Khan was elected unopposed chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He was nominated by the former prime minister Imran Khan.
Calling PTI chairman-designate Barrister Khan an “interim or daily-wager” chairman, Solangi said that the PTI does not want democracy within the party but wants democracy and fair elections in the country.
“PTI accused other parties of dictatorship, however, its intra-party elections have been controversial in the past,” Solangi added.
Soon after the results of the PTI intra-party polls were announced, PTI estranged leader Akbar S. Babar rejected the poll, saying decisions regarding the election of leadership were taken behind doors without workers’ participation.
“We had concerns long before the elections were held. Whatever happened today was a fraud and farce. It was a drama in the name of democracy. There is no concept of caretaker in the party’s constitution,” he said during a press conference in Islamabad on Saturday.
Babar, who is one of the founding members of the PTI, said that he along with other leaders and workers will approach the Election Commission of Pakistan regarding the party polls.
