PPP’s Senator Moula Bux Chandio said that the 18th Amendment of the Constitution was essential for Pakistan and conspiracies against it would weaken the federation of Pakistan.
“It will not be a good thing if the amendment is rolled back. Many from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have sacrificed their lives for it,” he told Shaukat Piracha on Rubaroo.
He was responding to the statement of PML-N leaders who admitted that it plans to revisit the 18th Amendment to the Constitution. Party leaders addressing a press conference told reporters that the party intends to implement the amendment in its spirits and wants to complete it by introducing further devolution of powers.
Chandio claimed that bringing changes to the amendment was the MQM’s dream.
“PML-N keeps everything in the centre. The proposed plan to change the amendment is part of the deal between PML-N and MQM-P,” he said.
PTI founder Imran Khan’s legal aide Naeem Haider Panjutha alleged that Akbar S. Babar’s entry into the intra-party election was part of the propaganda against the PTI.
“His membership was revoked by President Arif Alvi in 2011. He was appearing in courts for 13 years against PTI and today he said that he was contesting intra-party elections,” he added.
On nominating the suspects of the May 9 riots as provincial presidents, he said that the leaders have not been found guilty while the cases were also fabricated.
He refuted the reports of conducting the election in secrecy, saying that the party wrote a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan about the date and time of the polls.
“A meeting of the core committee was held where the members agreed on the name of Barrister Gohar for the chairmanship slot. How were election secret if Akbar S. Babar reached the party office at the time of the poll,” he added.
PML-N’s Tehmina Daultana said that the party is planning to challenge the PTI’s intra-party elections as it were against rules and regulations.
“In intra-party election, there is no concept of nomination. When you nominate someone for chairmanship, it is no longer a democracy but a kingdom,” she added.
She said that it was disappointing that the PTI nominated Barrister Gohar Khan for the chairman slot as its leaders have left the party.
