Prices of peanuts soar with advent of winter season

The change of weather in Karachi has increased the demand of a winter delight – peanut – and subsequently its price in the open market, making it a hard nut to crack.

Although peanuts are one of loved delicacies of the season, the dry fruit was out of the reach of many people due to its high price.

According to sellers, the ‘A’ quality of peanut, also known as the one from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Parachinar was being sold at Rs1,400 per kilogramme while the second level quality of peanut was being sold at Rs1,000

Perhaps, such high rates were the reason for not seeing the rush that once was used to see in the city’s markets.

One of the sellers lamented that the market was not as it used to be, saying that he used to sell a whole sack of peanuts once but not now.

Many were of the view that at a time when people were trying hard to have a square meal, it was difficult to enjoy such delicacies.
