Elon Musk commits to wearing ‘Dog Tag’ gifted by Israeli parent

Billionaire Elon Musk has been gifted a symbolic dog tag by the father of a hostage in Gaza, with “our hearts are hostage in Gaza” engraved in it.

Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, accused by civil rights groups of amplifying anti-Jewish hatred on his X social media platform, met Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Monday along with Israelis whose relatives have been held by Hamas in Gaza.

During the meeting, President Herzog told Musk that the latter had a “huge role to play” to combat antisemitism, news agency AFP reported. The billionaire, who is also the owner of X (formerly Twitter), has been accused of amplifying anti-Jewish hatred on the social media site since he took in October last year.

The father of another hostage presented Musk with the tag, and Musk said he would wear it every day until his loved ones were released.

The fighting between Israeli forces and Hamas has paused after a four-day truce deal was agreed. Hamas released 69 hostages and Israel freed around 150 Palestinian prisoners. Both sides are expected to exchange hostages as the truce has been extended for another two days.

In a meeting between Israeli President Isaaz Herzog, Musk, and hostage families, Rachel showed Musk a video of her son being abducted by Hamas despite being badly injured.

President Herzog emphasized Musk’s role in combating antisemitism and urged him to fight it together.

Israel has also agreed with Musk that SpaceX will provide Starlink satellite internet services in Gaza only with its approval.
