Shubman holds first, Babar Azam secures second position in new ODI rankings

The International Cricket Council (ICC) issued on Wednesday a new ranking of the players in ODI cricket.

According to the new ranking, India opener Shubman Gill has maintained the first spot in the batting in the ODI rankings with 826 points, followed by former Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who is in the second spot with 824 points.

India’s top-order batter Virat Kohli is in third place, while captain Rohit Sharma is in fourth.

Kohli famously held the No.1 ranking for a total of 1258 consecutive days during a reign of almost four years between 2017 and 2021, with Babar spending the majority of time in the premier position in recent years until Gill claimed top billing during the World Cup.

South African frontline spinner Keshav Maharaj tops the bowling rankings. For Pakistan, Shaheen Shah Afridi ranks 9th in bowlers ODI rankings.

None of the Pakistan all-rounders had cemented their place in the top 10 rankings.
