Kartarpur dance party controversy, management denies Indian propaganda

The Project Management Unit (PMU) of Kartarpur Corridor has denied all allegations related to the dance party in the premises of Gurudwara Darbar Sahib, days after a video went viral on social media, reported BBC.

In a video that went viral on November 18, was seen that a party was underway on the premises of Baba Guru Nanak’s tomb where meat and liquor were being served, which hurt sentiments of the Sikhs everywhere.

Following the incident, Indian political and religious leaders criticized the party and termed the existence of non-veg food and liquor as a disrespectful act.

The officials at Kartarpur also clarified that the dinner reception was held about two kilometres from the Gurudwara Darbar Sahib in the Project Management Unit (PMU) complex.

A statement issued by the PMU of Kartarpur Corridor confirmed the party aimed to rebuild coordination with the concerned department for phase II of the project but it was hosted at least two kilometres away from the tomb.

“All important government institutions of Narowal District, District Administration, Police, Pakistan Rangers, Tourism Police, Highway Police and Information Department as well as media groups attended the party,” said a statement.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the Indian Punjab Assembly Kultar Singh Sandhwa reached Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib and met the Head of Granthi Gobind Singh.

Baba Guru Nanak’s tomb is the most respectable place for the Sikh community, and the previous government of the country established a direct thoroughfare from the Indian border to Narowal aimed to provide easy access to the Sikh pilgrims.

In the aftermath of this Indian Sikh leaders demand a probe into the matter and legal proceedings against those who were involved in the act.

Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal wrote on the X account that this incident at Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib has hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community all over the world. The violation should be reported to the relevant authorities.

Marjindar Singh Sirsa said: “We were afraid that there might be blasphemous actions at the Gurdwara complex.”

Inaugurated on November 9, 2019, on the eve of the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak, the first Guru of Sikhism, Kartarpur has a special significance in the Sikh religion as Guru Nanak had spent the last years of his life at the place.
