When many fans were disappointed with India’s loss against Australia in the World Cup final, Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan reminded them that it was a game of sports and that sportsman spirit should always be alive.
“It’s a sport and there are always a bad day or two,” he said in a post on X, erstwhile Twitter, on Sunday as he praised the Men in Blue for their game in the whole tournament.
Australia handed hosts India a six-wicket defeat to claim its sixth World Cup title, reminding the cricket aficionados of their dominance in the game.
Aussies skipper Pat Cummins kept to his promise to silence the crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium. “There’s nothing more satisfying than hearing a big crowd go silent and that’s the aim for us tomorrow,” he said on Saturday.
“The way the Indian team has played this whole tournament is a matter of honour and they showed great spirit and tenacity,” the Bollywood actor said.
The Rohit Sharma-led side was not up to their mark in the final as their batters did not put up enough runs for their bowlers to defend. The bowling duo Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah did give some hope to the side with three quick wickets, but Travis Head was a nightmare for the hosts.
The left-handed batter was declared player of the match for his ton that helped his side to achieve the target of ‘hearing a big crowd go silent’.
Shah Rukh Khan, who was in the stadium, lamented that Sunday was a bad day for India.
“Unfortunately it happened today….but thank u Team India for making us so proud of our sporting legacy in cricket…u bring too much cheer to the whole of India. Love and respect. You make us one proud Nation,” he said.
