Caretaker Information Minister of Punjab Amir Mir has disproved reports regarding a US delegation’s meeting with PTI Chief Imran Khan in Adiala jail.
Mir said that the claims made by PTI President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi were baseless as no such meeting request has ever been received from any foreign diplomat, and no such meeting has ever taken place.
The information minister went on to add that permission from the interior and foreign ministry is needed to meet a prisoner inside the jail.
Earlier, reports had said that a United States delegation visited the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi where they met Christian prisoners and inquired about their condition during their visit.
The delegation comprised Greg Edward, Robert Franklin, Donald Szolomeyer, Mark Rice, and Peter Rich, they added.
Khan has been incarcerated in Adiala Jail after he was shifted from Attock jail after the suspension of his sentence in the Toshakhana criminal case.
Initially, he was held at the jail in the cypher case which was registered under the Official Secrets Act. Later, the National Accountability Bureau officially arrested him after an accountability court issued his arrest warrants.
On November 17, Judge Muhammad Bashir presided over the hearing in the case in Adiala Jail, where the anti-graft body asked for a 10-day remand.
However, the judge only approved a four-day remand and adjourned the case till November 21.
