A United States delegation visited the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on Thursday, sources said. This is the same prison where former prime minister Imran Khan is incarcerated.
The delegation comprised Greg Edward, Robert Franklin, Donald Szolomeyer, Mark Rice, and Peter Rich, they added.
They met with Christian prisoners and inquired about their condition during their visit. Jail officials briefed the delegation about the facilities.
Along with Khan, former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi was also kept in the Adiala Jail.
Last month, the PTI chairman was transferred from Attock Jail to Adiala Jail. But his lawyer said that he was shifted without seeking his consent.
Earlier on Thursday, US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome visited Multan. He visited the city’s iconic tomb of Shah Shams Tabraiz.
“The US government has been a proud partner in restoring 32 cultural gems across Pakistan, from Gandhara treasures to Mughal marvels, underscoring US commitment to cultural heritage in Pakistan,” the US Consulate General Lahore said in a post.
In a meeting with Multan Division Commissioner Amir Khattak, the ambassador discussed the development priorities of the region, including health and education, and collaborative opportunities through the US-Pakistan ‘Green Alliance’ Framework to address shared climate and environmental challenges.
