Indian batter Virat Kohli broke the record of most ODI centuries by hitting his 50th ton in the format during the semifinal against New Zealand at the World Cup 2023 in Mumbai.
Kohli reached his 50th ODI hundred in his 279th innings, while Sachin Tendulkar required 452 to reach 49 centuries. India’s skipper Rohit Sharma is third on the list of ODI century makers, with 31 from 253 innings.
This was also Kohli’s first-ever ton in the knockout stage of the Cricket World Cup. He also crossed Tendulkar’s landmark of the most runs in a single edition of the Cricket World Cup, in the 34th over of the India innings.
With this ton, he has now three centuries in the ongoing World Cup, having scored centuries against Bangladesh and South Africa in the tournament.
