‘The roar is back’: Tiger 3 becomes Salman Khan’s biggest opener

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s film Tiger 3 has become his number opener, as the movie collected around 44 crore Indian rupees on the first day of its release, according to Indian media.

According to Bollywood Hungama, the spy film from Yash Raj Films collected in the range of 42 to 44 crores on its opening day. The movie was released on Diwali.

Moreover, he also scored an all-time single-day record for “Laxmi Pooja Day” and many believe such a record would be difficult to break. As videos on social media showed, it was “Salmania”—a term used for the actor’s fans—at its peak.

The media outlet added that the third sequel to the Ek Tha Tiger franchise surpassed the previous biggest Diwali Day by a margin of over 100%. The previous record holder for the Diwali day collection was Krrish 3 at approximately 16 crores.

Before Tiger 3, it was Bharat that collected around 42.30 crores on Eid Day. The thriller movie has collected in the range of 17 crores in the three national chains, PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis, contributing a little over 40% to the total business.

Many believe that the movie business would see a spike on Monday and Tuesday as there are not any World Cup matches scheduled in the two days.

Emraan Hashmi plays the role of antagonist in the Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer movie. The film has special appearances from Shah Rukh Khan, who plays Pathaan role in spy universe, and Hrithik Roshan, who plays the role of Kabir.

“The roar is back… Tiger3 is the biggest dhamaka you can expect this Diwali… Excellent second half, solid action pieces, superb cameos and of course, a ferocious,” film critic Taran Adarsh said in a post.

“Never ever write off the mighty Khans,” he said in his review.
